My Favorite Purchase from Last Year: A Hydroponic Herb Garden That Brightened My Winter!
Buffalo winters can feel never-ending, but last year, I found a way to brighten up my kitchen – a hydroponic herb garden from Amazon! 🌿✨ It became one of my favorite purchases, and watching my herbs grow quickly in the middle of the winter was a true mood booster. Something about having fresh greenery indoors, especially when it's freezing outside, just made the season feel a little less dreary.
Last year, I used the herbs for cooking – drying them, freezing some for later, and using fresh basil for pesto (yum!). This year, I'm hoping to take it a step further by creating a little indoor tea garden. I also plan to mix the herbs into homemade butter and sourdough bread (recipes coming soon!).
Here are my top 6 herbs to grow in a hydroponic garden – they’re easy to maintain and pack a punch in the flavor department!
1. Basil 🌿
Basil is a classic, and for good reason. It grows quickly and adds so much flavor to dishes like pasta, pizza, and especially fresh pesto.
2. Mint 🍃
Mint is a must for anyone who loves fresh tea or refreshing drinks. It grows like crazy, smells amazing, and has a ton of uses.
3. Thyme 🌱
Thyme is perfect for seasoning everything from roasted veggies to meats, and it’s super easy to grow.
4. Parsley 🌿
Parsley is often seen as a garnish, but it’s so much more! It’s fresh, healthy, and versatile..
5. Oregano 🌿
Oregano is a must for anyone who loves Italian food. It’s perfect for pasta sauces, pizza, and roasted meats.
6. Lemon Balm 🍋
Lemon balm is a calming, citrusy herb that makes a great addition to any tea garden. I used it to create soothing, refreshing teas that were perfect for winding down after a busy day. Plus, it smells amazing – kind of like a fresh lemon grove.
Now that the colder months are approaching, I’m ready to dive back into my hydroponic herb garden! Fresh herbs are such a mood booster, and having them grow indoors makes winter feel a little less long and dark.
